Breaking Through Concrete is a collaborative project exploring the impact of interconnected social and environmental justice issues that threaten the health and safety of our communities and our future. The project consists of two components. The first is a toxics tour for a team of Bay Area musicians and poets facilitated by Communities for a Better Environment. Artists will find inspiration for creative works from the tour and prep for the final performance event. The event, to take place on June 9, 2016 at Starline Social Club, will feature performance artists, musicians, and poets that highlight voices from impacted communities on the front lines of oil refineries, coal and oil train fights, displacement and gentrification.
